Manawatu County Council.
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held yesterday. Present—Crs J. G. Wilson (Chairman), H. Hammond, F. Robinson, F. Carter. Or Clark sent an explanation of his absence. 4CORRESPONDENCE. Part of the inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : From T. H. Simpson, asking for right of cutting the flax on the road from the bridge to Bainesae.—Council does not sell flax on roads. From Pascal Bros., Awahnri, objecting to special rate being struck over portion of County to raise, interest on loan for Ngawhakarau road.—The chairman said it was a mistake of the writere to say no money had been spent in their locality, as £640 had been spent out out of a loan, £2OO of a grant, and other sums making £9OO recently. He did not consider that Messrs Pascal Bros, were justified in using the language they had in respect to his moving the motion to strike the special rate. From the Eongotea branch of the Farmers’ Union, asking Council to arrange to connect tram service with the Government line so as to enable goods to be sent to, or received from, Wellington in one day,—The chairman undertook to ascertain what could be done in the matter. THE TRAMWAY. The Tramway manager reported that the receipts during the past month had been £l6B 4s 2d, and the expenditure £223 1 Is 9d. The debit balance was due to expensive repairs carried out, He advised
better appliances to obtain water. FINANCES. The Treasurer reported as follow -—General account, dr £3O 3s 7d loan, cr, £1673 18s 9d. Ridinj account —Sand on riding, dr, £3i 12s 7d; Mt. Stewart, cr, £3B 4s Waitohi, cr, £llO 12s Id; Kongo tea, cr, £2Bl Os; Carnarvon, dr £47 9s 6d; Kawakawa, cr, £lßl fia Awahou, cr, £l4O 7s 7d. I TENDERS. I Tenders, as follows, were ad cepted:—Contract 142, Walker anj Nolan, at 29s per chain (when monel available); 143, Lumaden and Daviq at 3« per yard; 145, James Lobbj at 8s 8d per yard; 146, Stuart a'&j Sons, - at 5s 9d per yard for 251 yards screened gravel; 147, W.
