Foxton Borough Council.

A special meeting of the above was held prior to the ordinary meeting at 7.30 o’clock last night. Present—The Mayor (Or Hennessy), and Crs. Speirs, Stiles, Simpson, Robinson, Walsh, Symons, Gower and Baker,

The following resolution was carried;— Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Robinson, That this Council hereby confirms the special order making special rate made by this Council on the ninth day of February last for the purpose of providing interest and other charges on a loan of £3,000 to be borrowed from the Government to make certain streets and roads. The ordinary meeting was then held. The correspondence and reports were read. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Gr Symons, That the accounts as read be passed for payment, and reports as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That this Council hereby writes off the sum of four shillings and one penny, bring the amount of rates due by unknown owner. Carried. - Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Speirs, That the clerk be instructed to get notice board written in English and Maori, and fixed at either end of Wirokino Bridge for the regulation of traffic, and that Mr Nye be thanked for supplying the Maori notice. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Robinson, That this Council desires to place on record their feeling of gratitude to Mr George Nye for the great assistance rendered by him in supervising the screwing up of the Wirokino Bridge, and beg to tender him a hearty vote of thank# for services voluntarily rendered, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to him. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the . overseer be instructed to report the names of Carters infringing by-law No. 78 to the clerk, and’that he takes proceedings against them. Carried.

Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the ? occupier be requested to grub out and remove the gorse now growing, on the Cenietery Reserve.

Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Simpson, That the tender ,of Mr Bradcock for ranging be accepted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, That the tender of jMary Nelson be accepted for lease of section 250 at the sum of £4 per annum; and that the tender of W. Gray be accepted for Cemetery Reserve at £l7 per annum. Carried. Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Speirs, That the Mayor be empowered to arrange for the supervision of the expenditure of £3,000 -loan and the laying out of No. 1,2 and 6 Lines. Carried.

Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Robinson, That tenders be called for cleaning the Borough- drains. Carried.
