Wellington Mayor’s Chain. On behalf of Mrs Rhodes, Mr W. H Mobrhouse presented to the City Council a Mayoral chain made of gold, and beautified by exquisite workmanship: In making the presentation, Mr Moorbouse said that Mrs Rhodes desired him to express her smeerest best wishes for the prosperity of the city, and to further express her assurance that so long as the present occupant of the office continued to wear the emblem there would be no room for doubt in the matter at all. Mr Moorbouse also explained that the first link in the chain had been given in memory of the late Mr George Hunter (who was in 184.1 the first Mayor of Wellington City), and the second link was given in memory of the speaker s father, Mr Sefton Moorbouse (who was for some time a Mayor of the city). Mr Aitken was then invested with the chain by Jto Town Clerk. The Mayor, u> a short speech, expressed the thanks of tho Council and himself to Mrs Rhodes for her gift, and then dilated upon the readiness Mrs Rhodes had ever displayed.to do things for the advancement of the city. His Worship also expressed the Council’s satisfaction wS his own for the gift of a link m memory of Messrs Hunter and Moorhouse. His Worship mentioned also that 10 the chain there was a link given bv Mr Blair, a former Mayor, and a further link contributed by Mr Aitken
