Foxton Borough Council
A special meeting of the above was held pr«vious ; to the ordinary meeting at 7.30 o'clock. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Cr P. Hennosay), and Crs_W. Robinson, G. StP.es, J. Symons, A, Speirs, S. B n-k r ’i T ’* Westwood and B. G. Gower. * he l valance-sheet ending 31st March, /902., was read, and it was proposed by Mayor, seconded by Cr Robinson, x hat this Council passes the balancesheet ji’st read as correct, and that it be signed by the Mayor. Carried. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Symons, That in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that.behalf by the Municipal Corporation Act, xgoo, the Foxton Borough Council hereby resolves as follows: That for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of three thousand pdunds (£3,000), authorised to be raised by the Foxton Borough Council under the provisions of the Local Bodies Loans Act, tool, for construetioa of roads and Frenis, the said Foxton Borough Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of threepence farthing i; d the £ upon the rateable valuation 0 f a n ratea ble property of the br; roU gii of Foxton, Crown and Native { AQ excepted, and that snen f rate shall be an annual recurring rate during the currency of * u .Ca loan, and be payable yearly o« 'ujo first day of juae in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or untilthejoan is fully paid off. Carried. The ordinary meeting was then held. The minutis of previous meetings .were read and confirmed. Correspondence inward and outward and the reports were read. Proposed by Cr bpeirs, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Defence Department be informed that since Graystreet was not accepted by the Railway Department the Council conlernplate to build Council offices, and the back part of the section is required for a Borough yard, as there is much vacant land about Foxton the Council doe# not think there should be much trouble in getting a site for a volunteer shed. An amendment, proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the application of the Railway Department for a portion of Greyfor a drill ball site for the Decoct Department be granted. On being put to the meeting the amendment was lost, the voting being -—tor the motion, the Mayor, Crs Gower, Baker, Speirs and Symons. For the amendment—Crs Westwood, Robinson and Stiles. Propoied by Crs Robinson, seconded by Cr Gower, That the registration of dogs be fixed at 7s 6d, with a reduction of as 6d if paid before 31st March next, and sheep, cattle, and rabbbit dogs be US fid. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Westwood, That the accounts as read be passed for payment, and reports as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That tenders be called for the office of ranger, tenders to be in by •3rd lost. Carried. Aa amendment proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Stiles, That applications be invited for the position of ranger, was lost. Proposed bi Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, That steps be taken by this Council to discover who controls the old Maori cemetery in Main-street north, with the view of making improvements, in removing pines, and planting with low ornamental shrubs, «c„ and that His Worship the Mayor and clerk be authorised to interview tho Rev. James Duncan for information upon ownership of such property. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Speira, seconded by Cr Symons, That the clerk be instruoted to get 10 trucks of limestone for footpaths. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the clerk be instructed to get balance-sheet printed as usual. Carried. The Council then adjourned.
