Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, JAN. 20. 1908. Public Meeting.
The. public meeting convened by the Mayor for to-night should be well attended by those who are in the least doubt about voting for the proposed loan. For our own part we look upon the loan as a necessity, and the object gained by the use of the borrowed money as a great convenience and a means of economy to the ratepayer. The present plan of ploughing your cart or carriage through miles of unformed roads must cost both storekeepers and settlers much more money than the cost of the loan, as wear and tear of vehicles and horses will be saved, as well as time in doing the work, and time saved is money made. We can hardly believe that any one desires to object to the proposed loan, as its apportionment has been advertised and shows that every part of the borough has been fairly treated. W® understand that the Mayor, who has the scheme at heart, will be able to show the good that can be achieved and the cost, so that those who want information can ask for it at the meeting. The councillors, in their united wisdom have voted unanimously upon the question which gives the public a lead upon the matter, A. poll will be taken at an early date.
