The Races.

Everything bids fair for a splendid meeting of the Poxton Racing Club on Thursday and Friday, and everyone who wants a pleasant day’s outing, to see good racing, to see a crowd, and to make money, should be there.

The splendid nominations received have been followed by equally as good acceptances which total ten in excess of those of the first day last year. The lowest number accepted for any race is eight, and the highest fifteen. The Foxton Cup, with a prize of £l5O, brings out ifl horses, and there are 14 for the Summer Handicap, the other open race. Mr J. W. Proctor* the popular host of the Club hotel, Macton, has secured both publicans’ booths, and visitors will thus be assured of good liquor and good attendance. Mr Marr has the cards, which, with his experience, will prevent any purchaser being overlooked. The Messrs Langley Bros, have the luncheon, both in the Stand and outside, in their charge, and the general excellence of their cuisine is known far and wide.

Mr Hillary purchased the outside gates and Mr Wyeth the Stand and Saddling Paddock, and as both purchasers have held these privileges before, they understand how to meet the public, Mr W. Collins has the horse enclosure, a right he has obtained for some years, therefore knowing tbo wants of visitors will be fully prepared to supply them. The Foxton Brass Band has bean engaged for the two days. It is the general opinion that fine weather will bring together the largest crowd ever witnessed on the Foxton Course,
