The Public Luncheon.

The residents have moved heartily in the suggestion to tender our late member, Mr John Stevens, a public luncheon, and it has been decided to hold the function on Wednesday, the 14th inst. It will be noticed that the luncheon will be held in the Public Hall, and that ladies are invited and most strongly desired to attend. The idea is to make the whole surroundings similar to the gathering which welcomed His Excellency the Governor when he came to open the Wirokino bridge. The time is fixed at two o’clock for this purpose, and if the ladies will but take the matter up, a very pleasant afternoon can be spent. The Rt. Hon. the Premier and Sir Joseph Ward have been invited and it is hoped they will be able to attend ; and Mr Fraser, M.L.C., has also been asked. Arrangements for suitable music have been made, and that with good speeches should make the day a memorable one.
