AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE MANAWATO HERALD.
Sir,— Referring to a local appearing in your publication of Saturday last in connection with the visit of Messrs Vile and Pirani to Foxton, you make special refeience and lay special stress upon a certain statement that these gentlemen were Only inside of one hotel or other until they left. You have an evident object in view which does not by any means redound to your credit. You know of course that a license is issued to an applicant to sell liquor, conditionally that certain accommodation is provided for in the licensed premises, quite outside of the traffic in liquor, and that accommodation was taken advantage of in the natural order of things- Now further as to myself I shortly after my lunch on the day of my arrival, made several visits in town, amongst which I called upon yourself and settled my election account with you; at 3 p.m. I went out to Moutoa with Mr O. Austin to see the Shannon Bridge site, and on my way back did your town and and suburbs, and nrtade further calls until nearly 6.30 p.m. The train left in the morning early, shortly after breakfast, and I had to leave by that train, being due in Marton that afternoon at 3 p.m. This, I think, is a distinct refutation of your uncalled for and mean paragraph. I am, &c.,
Job Vile.
