Our contemporaries have lavished their good wishes upon us, and the best we can do is to desire that the same good feeling will always remain, and return the same greetings as we have received. Thus to the Woo'dville Examiner, Otaki Mail, Feilding Star, Manawatu Farmer, Wairarapa Standard, do we apologise for the delay in our acknowledgement of their courtesy, owing to the very long holiday our staff has observed.
Almanacs have poured in upon us from all quarters that had we not desperately struggled we should have been buried beneath them. They are all very pretty, but there is no doubt our business men have decided wisely to have no more of them. As too many cooks are said to spoil the broth, so too many almanacs defeat the object of the business man. Mr Hobbs’ representative, Mr Cornford, will visit Foxtou on Thursday, 15th January. To-day Messrs Abraham and Williams advertise full particulars of the clearing sale at Oroua Downs on the 6th January. There are some selected dairy cows, fat and forward cows, and a few steers. On Thursday the Friendly Societies’ hold their annual sports and picnic in-Victoria Park, and if the day is fine the trains which will arrive from Feilding and Palmerston should be crowded with excursionists. The Executive have made all possible arrangements for a successful day, and a first-class lunch will be obtainable at Messrs Langley Bros.’ luncheon and refreshment booth. The spott should be good, as the nominations received constitute a record, and the children will have plenty of races to keep them occupied. A brass band will be in attendance, and hot water and milk will be provided free. The first race is timed to start at 12 noon. We have to thank Mr S.
