MANAWATU RACES.
FIRST DAY.
Though the weather was not promising for the first day’s races of the above Club, there was a record attendance. All the officials worked hard to make the meeting a success, while Mr J. M. Johnston, the popular secretary, was the right man in the right place. The sum of £12,186 was put through the machine. Following are the results Telegraph Stakes, of 110 sovs; six furlongs.-—Rangitata 7.5,1; Perfection, 7.10, 2; Laureate, 6.18, 8. Won easily. Time, Imin 20 8-ssec. Dividends, £4 10s and 19s. First Hack Hurdles, of 120 sovs; two miles.—Kohunui, 10.7,1; Waiwera, 11.18, 2; Roer, 10.0, 8. Won by three lengths. Time, 4min Oseo. Dividends, £4 5s and 16s, • Manawatu Cup, of 400 sovs; 1£ miles.—Hinetaura, 7.10,1; Convoy, 85, 2 ; Kahuwai, 6.10, 8. Won all out by a length. Time, 2min 47 3-5 sec. Divs. £8 6s and £1 3s.
First Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 60 sovs; 1| miles,—Flanagan, 9.0, 1; Waitohl, 9.18, 2; Beau Ideal, 10.9, 8. Led from start to finish. Time, Bmin 86sec. Divs, £6 19s and 16s.
Maiden Hack, of 40 sovs; 7 furlongs.—Ballarat, 7.11,1; Maureen, 7.-2, 2; The Gift, 8.2, 3. Time, 2min Ssec. Diva. £3 10s and £2 Ba.
Grandstand Handicap, of HOsovs ; 1 mile.—Dingo, 9.0, 1; Ballyneety, 7.2, 2; Lady’s Link, 7.2, 8. Won by half a length. Time, Imin SOseo, Divs. £2 2s and £1 15a.
Hack Flat Handicap, of 50 sovs; 1 mile. —Otaio, 7.0,1; Rajah, 7.13, 2; Mussell, 7.10, 8. After a great finish Otaio won by a length. Time, Imin 53 8-sseo. Divs. £9 5s and £2 4s.
Nursery Handicap, of 100 sovs; five furlongs—Gold Seal, 8.8, 1; Gold Dust, 7.10,2; Secret Society, 8.5, 3. Gold Seel led all the way and won easily by over a length Time, Imin 6sec. Div. £7 Bs. SECOND DAY. The weather was fine for the second day's races. The sum of £9428 was put through the machines during the day. ResultsSummer Handicap, of 100 sovs; six furlongs.—Rangitata, 88, 1; Ostiak, 9.8, 2; Whirlwind, 0.7, 3. Won by a length. Time, Imin 19sec. Divs. £2 14s and £2 9s.
Hack Plying of 60 sovs; six furlongs —-Rawiri, 8.5,1; Elibank, 80, 2; Bounce, 6.9, 8. Won comfortably by a length. Time, Imin 21seo Divs. £3 12s, the first and second being bracketed. Second Handicap Hurdles, of 100 sovs; If miles —Waiwera, 12.8, 1; Roer, 10 2,2 ; Kohunui, 11.11,3. Smithy was the only other started. Time, Bmin 28sec. Div. £2 16s. President’s Handicap, of 800 sovs; If miles.—Convoy, 8.9, 1 ; Hinetaura, 8.11, 2; Ghoorka, 7.10, 8. All started. Once into the straight Convoy came away and won easily by two lengths. Time, 2min 16 1-6 secs, Divs. £8 6s and £2 Bs.
Second Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 50 soys ; 1$ miles.—Awahuri, 10 13, 1; Beau Ideal, 10.8, 2; Waitohi, 10.2, 3 All started. Won by a good length. Time, 2 min 69secs. Juvenile Stakes Handicap, of 100 sovs ; 5 furlongs.—Auratus, 6.7, 1 5 Gold Dust, 7.18, 2; Gold Crown, 7.6, 8. Secret Society also started. Won by two lengths. Time, Imin 6 2-5 secs. Div., £lO 18s. Christmas Hack Handicap, of 50 boys ; 1 mile and a distance —-Comfort, 8.13, 1; Otaio, 8.0, 2; Dick Turpin, 78, 8. Won on the post by a nose. Time, 2min 6seo. Divs. £2 18s and £2 2s.
Farewell Handicap, of 100 sovs; once round.—Queen’s Guard, 7.12, 1; Ballyneety, 7.8, 2; Marianthus, 6.18,3. Div. £3 17s.
