Manawatu County Council.
The annual meeting was held on Wednesday. Present—Crs J. G. Wilson, T. Masters, T. Clark, H. Hammond, J. R. MacLonnan, F. Robinson and C. F. Carter.
Correspondence was read— From R. Wilson, overseer for T. G. Wilson, pointing out the advisability of regrading steep hills leading front Mr Wilson’s property to Kakariki and estimating the cost, with metalling at £SOO. ' From ferryman, Shannon, asking for 140 fathoms of new rope. From Goodbebere and Richmond* asking Council to have dam removed from Makino stream on Mr Riddlford’s property, as it was liable to cause water to flood Mr Pickering’s land. From Land and Survey office, notifying plan of road deviation, section 59, Ohakea Special Settlement had been approved. From R. Nimmo, offering £4 an acre for land next creamery at Moutoa. . From P. Brady, Himatangi, statmg f that ho desired to hold the leasS 01 the reserve. From Public Works Department, notifying that the ot the in* spector of tramway extension showed that the permanent was way poorly ballasted, the fishbolts arc mostly loose and the totara sleepers on the bridges do no bear evenly on the beams and are liable to break. From J. P. Innes, advising Council in regard to storage of grain that it was only bound to exercise “ ordinary diligence,’’ and would not l-e liable for damage by Are. From]. W. Whittakef, suggesting that subsidy to Rohgotea Town Hall could be paid to the hall trustees. From Foxton Borough 1 Council, notifying that the offer of £SOO towards cost of extension of tramway to Bulls had been rescinded.
The Treasurer reported balances as follows General account, dr., £l94° 17s 8d; loan account, cr., £4Bl 8s yd. Riding accounts Sanson, dr., £73 4s yd ; Carnarvon, dr., £l4 ios rod ; Mt Stewart, cr £132 10s yd; Waitohi, cr., £B3 15s 3d; Rongotea, cr., /199 ns 4d; Kawa-kawa, cr., £x6i izs 8d; Awahou, cr., £147 8s id, The tramway manager reported that receipts for October were £163 15s expenditure £9B 18s Bd, leaving a credit of £64 16s 4d. There were bad places on the extension that should be repaired as soon as possible. In reference to Mr R. Wilson's letter the Overseer was instructed to make an estimate of work required on Kakariki road and Gust’s line, to be in by next meeting. From T. Cameron, agreeing to loan asked for by R. A. Wilson, providing that £IOO for metalling Gust’s line is borrowed under same loan.
From Mrs Giesen, re roads in Brixton township,—Plans approved and signed by Chairman. The application for rope for Shannon Ferry was left to Cr Carter to deal with.
The Council could not see its way to take any steps in the matter of removing dam from Makino stream. Mr R. Nimmo’s offer for land at Moutoa was held over till plans are completed. Continuance of lease of reserve till February Ist was granted to Mr P. Brady. The Clerk was instructed to write to Colonial Secretary to expedite payment of subsidy to Rongotea Town Hall. It was resolved— . That the following alterations be made In the rate rollW. Kilsby in place of M. H. Mackeman, T. Inglis (jun.) in place of M. Mclntyre; L. Wheeler in place of John Gould. Mr Sutton’s tender for building tram sheds at Pukenui-Ohakea was accepted. That the Overseer report onTaikorea bridge at next meeting. Cr McLennan complained of the delay in the construction of the Taikorea bridge, and the Overseer, in explanation, stated that since February the stream bad been too high to do any work there. He was instructed to report fully on the matter at next meeting.
