A Premature Announcement.
Nothing neater has been penned in apology for the premature publication of an obituary notice than that which appeared recently in an Anglo-Indian religious paper. The “ Indian Witness,” seeing the death of Dr Jacob Chamberlain, a veteran missionary, announcement in Bombay and Calcutta papers, came out with a sympathetic obituary of the deceased. Greatly to his surprise, the editor received a telegram couched thus; “Dr Chamberlain living. Please correct mistake current issue.” This is how the editor rose to the occasion in the following issue; “We are truly glad to learn that our dear old friend still lives, though it will be a disappointment to many of his friends in heaven that he has not yet been permitted to join them there.”
