“Tattersall, Hobart”
Two men in business in Wellingbon have hem arrested on a charge of keeping a common gaming house and managing a lottery. It is stated that there is more m the arrest of the men than W ou id appear from the charge mentioned. Detectives M’Grath, Broberg, Beddam, and Cameron raided an office in the New Zealand Consolidated Dental Company’s buildings, at the corner of Cuba and Mercer streets opposite the central fire brigade station, This office is the place referred to in the charge, It was rented by “ The Tasmanian Parcels Express Delivery Company,” A printed circular found on the premises states “ Small parcels can be sent or left with us for despatch by express delivery to Tasmania: booking fee 6.” The detectives executed a search warrant, -and arrested the occupiers or tenants (the two accused). Some time ago the Federal postal restrictions on correspondence addressed to Adams or Tattersall, Tasmania, came into force. It is stated that almost all the “parcels” found in the office of the accused were small packages addressed to “ Adams (or to “ Tattersall”), Hobart, Tasmania. The police are said to have seized packages and documentary evidence from Which it would appear that those who addressed packages included well-known citizens. One of the men arrested is understood to be manager of the company and the other man his assistant.
