The Shannon Bridge.
His Worship the Mayor, Gr Hennessy, has received the report of W. S. Shoi’tt, Esq., on the apportionment of the cost of the Shannon Bridge, and he has upheld the position taken up by the Foxton representatives as to the unfairness of insisting on an equal contribution from the Borough as to that proposed by tiir two Counties.
Mr Shortt draws particular attention to that which we have time and again pointed out, notwithstanding Mr John Davies’ assertions, and says “ I cannot, however, find any promise that has been made that Government would subsidise the work, neither is anything provided for it upon the appropriations for the present year.”
Thf'tifonawatu County will also fall private arrangement with Mr Davies about only paying one-third of the cost, as the award is as follows : Borough of Foxton, 2*l2ths of such cost. Manawatu County Council, 5I2ths. Horowhenua County Council, fifths. The proposals of Mr Shortt’s are very fair and dovetails well in with the proposals the Borough was agreeable to.
