IN THE TOWN HALL, SHANNON, On THURSDAY, 23rd OCTOBER, 1902, At 3 o’clock p.m. Macdonald, wilson and co. are favoured with instruct ons from Mr J. R. Stansel! to sail by public auction a; above— TWENTY-ONE OF THE FINEST BUILDING SECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF SHANNON, being the subdivision of Suburban Sections Nos. 611, 612, CIS, 614, 615, ' and 616 on the plan of the town. Each of these sections has an average frontage to the principal streets of Shannon of 50ft by a depth of 230£t, and contain practically an area of over one quarter of an acre each. The sections are situated close to the Shannon railway station and opposite the Slate school, and from their central position they cannot be surpassed as vesidental and business site:. The town of Shannon has lorg been known as one of the soundest and most prosperous of the admirable settlements clung the line of tfcie Wellington andManawatu Company’s Railway. Shannon is, however, only in its infancy. The progressive .developments which are now about to take place will give it a commanding position and assist in making it the county town of the district. The recent purchase of the Makerua Swamp —an area of 13,000 acres—by a wea'thy syndicate and the large capital the syndicate company is about to expend in systematic draining and fitting the land for close settlement will in itself revolntionise the conditions of trade in Shannon. In addition to this important factor three new flaxmiils and a new sawmill are about to be erected. These mills will expend fully £2OOO per month in wages A branch bank is to be established forthwith and several new businesses created, all adding wealth and importance to the town of Shannon, and making it, for business purposes, one of the beat towns on the West Co st of the North Island, A vast improvement is about to be effected in connection with the roads of the district leading to and from the town of Shannon. A bridge is about to be erected at the Shannon Ferry—an immense boon to the Foxton residents. The Otarua stream is to be bridged at ,once, thus joining Nathan terrace with the main road to the Makerua ISyndcate's land. These changes alone wi : l, within twelve months, increase the passenger traffic inly one hundred per cent. The diversion of the flood waters Of the river Manawatu is now ihe subject of serious discussion amongst the residents of the town of Shannon. Financial arrangements of an extensive chancier wll l probah y be made so as to enab’e from 100,000 to 150,030 acres of the low-lying land botween Kereru and Longburn to be thoroughly drained. The vast importance of this great work, which may well be regarded as national work, to the town and district of Shannon has only to be mentioned to be understood by those best acquainted with she Manawatu district. As a sma'l investment the purchase of one or more of these twenty on-- valuable building sections will prove of (ha most satisfactory character. The sections will grow in value every year and prove a capital nest-egg. The terms are for each section—£s deposit, £5 in one month, £5 in throe months, £5 in six months, £5 in twelve months, balance in three years—lnterest 5 per cent, per annum.
