Manawatu County Council.

At the meeting of the Manawatu County Council on Wednesday au arrangement was made with Mr M. Boyle, contractor ol the tramway extension, for the Council to take over the work and deduct from the"amount £*s 5s sd, on account of incampleted portions as reported on by the Engineer, chief of which was the insufficient ballast on the line. In regard to the accident which happened on the line last month by which a cow was killed and some trucks broken, the Council decided to request the Manager to report as to necessary sidings needed and water supply, to avoid the practise of pi suing the trucks in front of the engine as this practice would have to be stopped. The overseer was directed_ to erect rails on the Sluggish Creek bridge. It was decided to erect a goods shed at Pukenui. .. It is the intention of the Council to try weed killing poison on ilie tram line. That being so settlers are warned to keep their cattle off. In xegard to the Coronation grants, Government expects, evidently, a certificate that the amounts claimed have been expended. That being so Council will be unable to claim in respect to the proposed grant to erect a hall at Rongotea until the work has been put in hand. It was remarked that the Rongotea people were very slow in the matter. , , It was resolved that tenders be invited for metalling Cooper’s road; also for forming about 40 chains of McLenoaa's road in from main dram road. That Mr Whittington’s tender tor widening Bank’s line and W. HTompkin’s tender for painting Kongotea Square fences be accepted. The Council will meet on 6th November to pass accounts. —Advocate.
