T he Foxton Sports.
The time is drawing closer to the day when the Foxton Athletic Club hold their second annual gathering. Favoured with fine weather the 10th November next should be a memorable one, as never before have such handsome trophies and money prizes been donated in the interests of sport.. It is particularly gratifying to the Club to find their efforts to promote one day’s good *sport is appreciated by the large number 0! trophies that have been given by our townspeople, in fact the committee have been in a quandary as to what the later trophies should go to. A wise proceeding has been the decision to have the trophies placed for a few days in the shop windows of Pal-, merston North and Feilding, and with this object in view Mr R. Noonan left for Feilding this morning entrusted With the majority of the trophies, the breakable and bulkier being left behind. The idea seems a splendid one, as it will give our inland friends an opportunity of seeing the kind of prizes we can offer. The nominations for the principal events close on the 21at October, and already some of the best professional and amateur runners have signified their intention of being present. The special trains from Feilding and Palmerston, it is hoped, will prove a success, as the Club have financially being only allowed this concession by a guarantee to the Department.
The concert and entertainment in connection with the sports should also be a success, as for the evening some outside talent will assist.
A meeting of the Club will be held at Mr W. Gray’s Post Office Hotel on Monday next, at 8 o’clock, to which every member is urgently requested to attend. .
