The M.R. Club’s New Stand.

The competitive designs received by the Manawatu Racing Club in connection with the new grandstand at the Awapuni course are .now open for inspection by members of the club. The successful design, that of Mr J. Charlsworth, Wellington, provides for a present length of stand of 216 feet, with a depth of 85 feet. Some idea of the size of the stand may be obtained by comparison* with the stand on the Showgrounds, which is 224 feet long and 45 feet deep. The racing stand will seat 1500 and accommodation is provided for future extension to seat 500 people: The building will contain a ladies' waiting and tea-roem, stewards' diningroom, public dining-room, public and members’ bars, besides all necessary lavatories and conveniences. A Marsard roof will be finished oil' with French tiles. There are four flying dormers and the stand, when not in use, will be closed with roller shutters. The back elevation is well in keeping with the front, both being of excellent design. The end elevation is somewhat plain, but the building, as a whole, should prove all that the club or the public desire.—M. Times.
