A meeting at Johannesburg, attended by two thousand people, formed a Political Association. Forty-one Boers, chiefly Cape Colonists from the prisoners' camps at Ceylon, have been arrested at Durban on a charge of treason. labour ok the rand. News received by mail from Capetown states that the proposal to import Chinese coolies to work in the mines was received with such a storm of indignation that it has been abandoned. A few Cingalese were imported, but they were found to be unsuitable for the work. There is said to Ire no demand for unskilled labour, but mechanics are readily engaged.
