Manawatu County Council
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held at Sanson on Tuesday. President—Crs J, G. Wilson (chairman), Masters, Robinson, Clarke, Hammond, McLennan and Carter.
The following correspondence was read and dealt with
Prom Feilding Borough Council, stating they were -willing to take over the road between South street and the Aorangi Bridge on condition that the Manchester Board and Manawatu Council each pay one-third of coat of maintainsnee.
From G. E. Porry and other Oroua Downs settlers, drawing attention to the impassable nature of the unformed roads and asking that culverts be put in and rubbish cleared away. From Audit Office, returning balance-sheet certified to. From M. Giesen, asking that certain roada in the Brlxton township be proclaimed public roads. From J. Gould asking for an approach to be made to his section. From Mr Fulton, stating that M. Boyle’s contract of tram construction could be taken over by Council as soon as certain small alterations were made by Boyle. From Mr Boyle, asking to be relieved of maintaining his contract.
From Korowhenua Council, agreeing to the offer made by the Manawatu Council to contribute one-third cost of construction of Shannon bridge, less the Government subsidy. From Roads Department, 'stating that Mr Short had been appointed a commissioner to apportion the cost of the proposed Shannon bridge. Due notice of the time of sitting will be given.—Received.
From' Constable Giesen,, drawing Council’s attention to the state of a dwelling house in Sanson. From H. Stewart, stating the engines undergoing repairs would be finished by Sept. Bth. From J. C. Maunder, asking permission to lay a small 4m drain across the road at Oroua Bridge Creamery to the main drain.
From Ocean Accident Company, forwarding cheque in settlement of claim made by Mclntyre and other employees of the Council.
From Pascal Bros, accepting offer of Council to supply second-hand rails. From Treasury, stating that the sum of £ISOO for part cost of Bulls bridge was paid to Council's credit. From same, forwarding £$ 15s gd, amount of collection on behalf of tram line.
From Dr Watson (Bulls), notifying the Council that measles existed at Sanson.
From Treasury, acknowledging receipt of £637 3s Bd, interest due to xst August, 190 a, on the debt of the Council.
From Palmer & Co., engineers, Wellington, asking if Council were disposed to replace one of the present engines with a heavier type. From Roads Department, in reply to Council’s letter re date for completion of Bulls bridge which was the 19th July last. From A. Pearson, asking to be supplied with ten yards of metal at Ron—Request granted. From Stock Inspector, asking to Ou supplied with numbers of sections on which noxious weeds were allowed to exist.—lnformation given. From W. Rutherford, Feilding. asking for transfer of slaughtering license to J. J. Rutherlurd. i From secretary Sandon Hall Committee, asking that crossing opposite the hall be attended to.—Matter to be attended toFrom S. H. Wrigley, asking for leave of absence for one week. FINANCE. Mr Purnell, County Clerk, reported the various accounts as underSandon, dr, £33 4s 8d ; Mount Stewart, cr, £*39 S iodWaitohi, cr, £7B 16s 7d; Rougotea, cr, £228 4s yd; Carnarvon, cr, £xx 05 ,3d; Kawa Kawa, cr, £lB7 os 8d; Asahou, £156 93 id. A special, meeting of the Council was then held to revoke the schedule of fares for passengers and classified rates on goods on the tram, and substitute others in place thereof,'which will mean a reduction on the charges at present made. The new rates will come into force from the Ist November next. MISCELLANEOUS. The chairman' was appointed to sign the balance-sheet for the financial year ending 31st March. The Council decided that they had no power to attend to roads referred to by Mr Perry and others. The Council was willing to proclaim the Brixton township road a public one provided Mr M. Giesen bears the cost.
