District Court.
In the District Court at Palmerston yesterday the case of Jas. Wallace v. G. A. and W. A. Gammanwaa heard, being a claim for £SOO. At a late hour last evening a verdict was given for the defendants.
Mr A. Seifert wrote donating an amount for Flaxmillers’ Race. A telegram was read from a resident of Redding, flaying that a special train from there should pay well, for 10th November, as there waa nothing decided upon for that date. The Railway Department replied saying the amount of guarantee required to run a special train from Feilding would be £27, also giving the price of special from Palmerston only. A discussion took place, and it was the general opinion that it was advisable to arrange for a special from Feilding, a motion to this effect being proposed by Mr Hamer, seconded by Mr Shadbolt. It was also decided that the owners of river steamers should be approached with a view to running an excursion to the beach on the day of sports for the benefit of those up country, and that it be a suggestion to the Railway Department when having posters printed to add the same. The chairman said he would be pleased to give a donation for the Flaxmillera’ Race. Votes of thanks to the chair, and to Mr W. Gray for use of room concluded the meeting.
