Pacific Islands.
An important development in connection with the trade of the Pacific Islands is reported by the Sydney Daily Telegraph. The well-known business conducted by the Pacific Islands Company has been secured by Messrs Lever Brothers, of Port Sunlight, Liverpool, and Sydney. Negotiations have been going on for some time for the purchase of the business, and these, it is stated, have now been brought to a satisfactory conclusion, and in due course the trade conducted by the Pacific Islands Company will be taken over by the Messrs Lever Bros. The business is extensive, embracing the trade of the Pacific Islands, including the Ellice, Marshall, Pbcenix, Tokelau Groups, Ocean, and many other outlying islands, with a line of steamers from Sydney. Mr W. H. Lever, of Port Sunlight, is now ea route to Sydney in connection with the matter, Mr Arundel, of the Pacific Islands Company, is also coming by the A. and A. route to Sydney, and is expected here in the course of a few weeks. In connection with the above, the following, from the London Morning Leader, of 28th May, is of interest Another interesting registration in connection with which there is to be no initial public issue is that of Lever's Pacific Plantations, Limited. This is formed with a capital of £50,000, in £IOO shares, with the object of acquiring the leases of certain Pacific Islands, which are to be cultivated worked as plantations and fisheries. The directorate of four is headed by Mr W. H. Lever, of Port Sunlight."
