Foxton Racing Club.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the above club was held at the Club’s-office last evening, when there was a very good attendance of membersMr E. S. Thynne, Vice-President was in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed and the following report and balance sheet was read. ; ; REPORT OF COMMITTEE. The balance sheet accompanying this report ought to fully justify your Committee in again congratulating members on the success of the past year’s transactions. The total revenue amounts to £t,§7* 12a 3d, which ineludes the balance of £228 3s brought forward from last year, and the expenditure £ 1,511 17s yd, shewing a credit balance on the 30th June last of £59 14s Bd. The annual race meeting was held on thtf 32nd and 23rd January last, and notwithstanding that the attendance the second day was affected by the heavy rain, the meeting was financially most successful, the sum of £8,891 passing through the totalisator, as against £7,432 for the previous year; the increase we consider is mainly due to the system of paying out on the Ist and 2nd horses. The nominations and acceptances have also advanced by £43 s* » the privileges have risen from £274 ns 6a for the previous year to £3OB 3s 6d; and the members’ subscriptions have slightly increased. ’ . , , During the year the Club made several improvements, notably amongst them being the erection, of new secretary’s, press and weighing rooms, judge’s box and totalisator house. The saddling paddock has been extended, and the training track widened by 30 feet. The cost of these improvements amounted to £385, not including the sum of £53 paid for general repairs and maintenance to the course, Mr J. Andrews has been appointed caretaker, and a dwelling has just been completed at a cost of £l4O 14s 6d, while the necessary fencing will amount to about £2O. ........ In addition to the items of expenditure already mentioned, the stakes amounted to £BOO, being £SO more than the previous year; salaries, £9O ss, which includes £ls 15s for a paid judge; printing and advertising, £O4 173; private detective fees, £7 10s. As showing the progress the Club has made during the past five years, the following figures shewing the total revenue each year should be 6f Interest to members:— ' 1896-97—the total receipts amounted to £844 6s gd; 97-98—£891 os m; 98-99—£1,023 T 9 S 3 d 5 99-190°A 1 !® 88 * 17s 6d; 1900 igox—£l,lso s:s; 19011902—£i,343 9 s 3 d - . It will be seen that the receipts have risen from £844 6s gd in 1896-97 to £1,343 gs 3d for the year just ended, an increase of £s°° for that period, which must be considered highly satisfactory to members, as ; only one race meeting was held in each year. _ A deputation from the Club interviewed the Hon, SirJ. G. Ward a short time back with a view of obtaining a second permit, but although satisfied that the Club was justified in making the request, he pointed out to them that no extra permits were available at present. . , Your Committee would recommend that the grandstand be freshly painted before the next meeting. A hearty vote, of thanks is due to all. officials (honorary and otherwise); for their untiring efforts in the interest ot the Club. All honorary officials now retire, put are eligible tor re-election.
