Foxton Athletic Sports Club

The annual general meeting of the above Club was held at Mr Haywood’s Hotel last evening, Mr Hamer in the chair. Tha room was packed. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The secretary pro. tem. (Mr MacDermott), read the list of financial members, showing that between 30 and

tioos. The Club’s credit in the bank was also mentioned, showing the affairs of the Club to be in a prosperous state. The rule referring to members being allowed to hold only one official position was considered, and it was proposed by Mr E. Smith, seconded by Mr D. Gillanders, That the rule re one member holding two positions be rescinded. Carried. The election of officers then took place with the |followiag result -.—President, His Worship the Mayor (Mr P. Hennessy). Vice-presidents, Messrs Caverhill, W. Liddell, J. Symons, W. S. Stewart, Haywood, Spelman, B. Gower, W. Bullard, I. Cumaaerfield, all being re-elected, with the addition of Drs. Bennett and Graham, F. E. Jenks, T. Westwood, S. Hickson, R. Noonan and A. Seifert. Proposed by Mr W. Cook, seconded by Mr J. Desmond, That Messrs S. Rickard and £. Smith be elected joint secretaries. Carried. Messrs MacDermott and Walsh were re-elected treasurers, The following committee were then elected Messrs W. Cook, A. Shadbolt, F. Martin, J, Matheson, J. Desmond, M. Perreau, 0. Gillanders, E: Dunn, W. Hamer, A. C. Baker and F. Robinson. Messrs E. Smith and J. M&thieson were elected starterb. Resolved, That Mr H. Bradoock be re-elected timkeeper. For the position of handicapper, it was pointed out that the handicapping last year proved to be most satisfactory, and it was unanimously resolved, on the. proposition of Mr E. Smith, seconded by Mr Cook, Mr Ulio Shannon be re-elected handicapper. Resolved, That Messrs A. Dudson, T. Gurtis, and A. Shadbolt be elected markers. ... The following j udges were elected Messrs T. Westwood, A. C. Baker, W. Gray, A. Laing, W. Hamer, W. Baker. Mr W. Cook was re-elected Blackboard clerk, with the assistance of Mr D- Gillanders. ( The question o' fixing the date for the annual sports gathering-was next considered. As the 9th of November next fell on a Sunday, it was proposed by Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Hamer, That the annual sports meeting take place on Monday, zoth Nov., tgoa"Carried.

It was mentioned that no reply had been received from the secretary of the Palmerston North Amateur Sports Club as to an alteration of their date for holding sports. The desirability of making arrange* ments early re trains was discussed and it was decided' that the Department should be approached with a view to running a special train from Feilding providing terms are satisfactory. It was proposed and carried that each member be entitled to a ladies’ ticket. A vote of thanks was tendered to all retiring officers for past services. Resolved, That a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs Austin on the death of her son, Mr C. Austin, who was an auditor for the Club last year. Trophies were promised, by the following members s—Messrs W. Hamer, W. Baker, M. Peneau (clock), E. E. Smith, cup for aggregate points in handicap, abd S. Rickard. The committee were requested by the meeting to inspect the track, and ascertain what is required to effect any improvement. A vote of thanks to the chairman, and to Mr Haywood for the use of the room brought a very enthusiastic meeting to a close.
