Volunteer Notes. The end of the series for prizes donated for firing matches concluded the other day leaving Sergeant Hamer and Privates Smith and Gillespie top of their classes, and it was decided to handicap these men and for them to fire off fer the choice of the three prizes. This firing was done to-day, resulting in Private Smith winning by a score of 39, and he takes Mr and Mrs Haywood’s prize of the biscuit barrel; Private Gillespie with a handicap oi 8 points was second with a score of 28. and he selects Mr George Coley’s prize of the silver inkstand ; and Sergeant Hamer was third with aß_points, and thus takes the cruet. The scores are as under, which show that Private Smith ended his shooting with three bull’s eyes in succession.. The match was ten shots each with 'two sighters, at 500 yards. The possible was 50.
