Manawatu County Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above council took place at Sanaon yesterday. Present—Crs. J. G. . Wilson (chairman), Clarke, Hammond, and Masters. ■ Leave of absence was granted Cr. McLennan. Correspondence was read and dealt with. FINANCE. Mr Purnell, County clerk, reported the various balances as under'; —General account, dr £906 13s 8d; loan, cr £985 11s 2d; Biding accounts—Sandon, dr £149 15s 7d j Mt Stewart, cr £66 12s 8d; Waitohi, dr £65 4s 9d; Rongotea, or £7l 6s Id; Carnarvon, dr £ll9 3s lid; Kawa Kawa, cr £156 13s 2d; Awahou, cr £29 8s lid. Mr James Hendersen, engineer, reported on the state of the Council's . engine, Weka, which, according to the report submitted, was badly in want of repairs, Mr Hendersen, who is employed to repair the t engine, paid a tribute to the excellent manner in. which Mr T. R. Martin, of Palmerston, had cast the brasses required. Mr Hendersen said the work was equal to what could be obtained in any part of the colony, and very cheap. THE TRAMWAY. The following are the returns from the tramway:—Grain, 133 tons; minerals, 23 tons; merchandise, 77 tons; hemp, 42 tons; chaff, 14 « trucks; firewood, 10 trucks; green flax, 24 trucks; scrap iron, 1 truck; pigs, 4 trucks; timber, 15,164 ft; fares, £5. The tram receipts were £ll4 6s 9d, expenses £134 18s Id. The . debit is attributed to the unusually heavy expenses of repairing. INCREASE 01’ WAGES, The roadmen’s wages were increased by sixpence per day. The engine driver’s request for an increase of pay was granted. RATES. The General current rate for the year was fixed |d in the £ on all property, MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Boyle’s .offer to supply 400 yards of extra metal required between Taikorea and Sanson at Is 7d per yard, was accepted. The Council decided to supply metal to ratepayers at 3s per yard between Sanson and Rongotea, and beyond the latter place 3s 3d,
