Horowhenua Land Ballot.

RESULT OP THE BALLOT.

As anticipated, there was keen competition for the thirteen sections in the • Horowhenua Bast Village Settlement, thrown open for settlement under the lease in perpetuity system, no less than 3201 applicants being received. The ballot took place at the Werecoa Hall, and caused great excitement, there being some 400 persons present to witness the drawing. The ballot was conducted under the superintendence of Mr John Strauchon, Commissioner of Crown Lands, while Messrs Baker (of Baker Bros) and Mitchell acted as scrutineers. Following are the results of the ballot;— Section 66—James Pollock, -of Wellington; 884 applicants. Section 68 —E. J, Prendergast, of Levin; 880 applicants. Section 69—Michael Sohranke, of Levin ; 878 applicants. Section 70—R. H. Taylor, of Levin; 838 applicants. Section ——o. E. Sharman, of New Plymouth; 804 applicants. g ction 78—Peter M. Verry; 896 applicants. - i Section 74—John H. Roberts, of Linton; 363 applicants. Section 72—Louisa Davies, Paraparaumu; 197 applications. Section 75—Ernest H. Snow, Levin; 250 applications. Section 77—J. B. Russell, Palmerston North; 35 applications. Section 67—John Stratton, Oolyton-; 79 applications. Section 58—Katie Evans, Levin; 76 applications. Section 59—W. H. Owen, Oban; 70 applications.
