A CADET CORPS.
TO THE EDITOB OF THE MANAWATU HE RAID. Sir, — The Coronation of our King ia at hand, and I think it a fitting opportunity to form a Cadet Corps here and call it King Edward’s Cadet Corps, or some such title, enrolling on the day of Coronation. I do not think there would be any difficulty in getting the necessary permission. Such a corps must consist of not less than forty members, between the ages of fourteen and eighteen. The time spent in such a corps counts half-time towards the long service volunteer medal and similar rewards. The Government give capitation at the rate of jfil for such as are returned efficient, besides arms and ammunition. . It must be understood that this is quite a different- thing to the school cadets, and is in fact intended to carry on what is learnt school so as to keep them in training against the time they are ready to join an adult corps. If there is any chance of the matter being taken up I will undertake the work of enrolling _ and endeavour to put the matter ia Shipshape order. I will take the names of those who are willing to join and who have their parents consent. I am, &c., W. HAMER, Hon. Sec. Foxton Rifles.
