Flax-Grading

Regulations under the Flax Grading anti Export AG, am gazetted. Provision is made for the careful branding by.the owner m each bale of flax submitted, and owiurs must forward to tho Secretary cl Agriculture from time to limo full nartioulars of all brands intended l<> e: n ed by then]. The only stores , wmeu flax can bo; examined and graded prior to export are the following At Auckland—Railway Department stores, Auckland If arbour Board stores and the Now Zealand Shipping Company’s store. At Wellington— Harbour Board store. At Lyttelton —New Zealand Shipping Company’s and Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s stores. All flax must be submitted at the store at least four clear days before shipment, and no flax shall be shipped for exportation unless it bears the stamp, tag or mark of the grader. No flax will be graded unless the grader has first received from the owner full particulars as to numbers, brands, weights, oto. Any bale of flax awarded less than 60 points by the grader will be condemned, and must not be exported. No flax will be graded that has not been properly dried, or that has-be-come wet in transit. The Government will undertake no duty end incur no liability with regard, to the unpacking, packing, handling and insurance of the flax. A charge of Is 6d per ton, or portion of a ton, will be made,for grading, and a certificate will be issued for the owner, a report for the miller, aud the tag for the bale without further charge. The grading will be carried out on iho following standards : —Superior, 95 to 100 points; fine, 85 and under 95 ; good fair, 75 and under 85 ; fair, 60 and under 75 ;' common, 60 and under 60. The points will bo awarded as follows Stripping and washing, 80 points; colour, 25; scutching, 20 ; strength, 20 ; finish, 6, Provision is made for the protection of the grader’s tags and marks.
