The Foxton Rifles Annual Meeting.

The second annual general meeting of the Foxton Rifle Volunteers was held in the Masonic Hall last night. Fifty-two members were present. Captain Walsh in the chair. The minutes of the previous year’s annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary’s Report and Bal-ance-sheet were adopted. The Rev. H. F. Wilson thanked the members for electing him to the position of honorary chaplain. A. 0. Baker was elected to the position of senior subaltern without opposition. For the position of junior subaltern Sergts. Hamer and Mitchell were nominated, but neither securing the proportion of votes required by the Defence Act, the election was void. Sergts. Mitchell and Austin were elected to act on the finance committee. The following were elected a shooting committee for the ensuing year:— Sergts. Hamer and Mitchell, Corporal Betty, Privates Smith, Ball, Nye and Martin. Sergt. Hamer was unanimously re-elected secretary, and a vote of ten pounds was passed for his past services. A committee consisting of Sergts, Hamer, Mitchell, Austin, Cor. Betty, Lance-Oor. Hurley, Privates Smith and Langley, with the officers, to 1 ascertain what possibility there was of securing a drill shed and land to build it thereon. On the proposition of Captain Walsh, seconded by Sergeant Austin-, it was decided that members, who were two month’s in arrears with their subscription should pay one shilling per packet for ammunition instead of sixpence. Sergeant Mitchell was appointed armourer for the ensuing year. Private Osborne was appointed to take charge of all uniforms not on issue, and to issue same when required. Resolved that the donors of trophies to the corps be thanked for same, and that it be recorded in the minutes. The balance sheet showed that the outstanding liabilities of the corp were .£135 8s 6d, against which there is a cash balance in hand of £26 17s fid, uniforms valued at £B2, and Government capitation to come in of £127 10s, and with Various other items the balance sheet shows assets over liabilities of £lsl ls.9d.
