Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held last night at 7.30 o’clock. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Cr F. E. Jenks), and Crs W. Robinson, W. Purcell, Alex. Speira, J, W. Walsh, P. Hennessy, B. G. Gower and J. Symons. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Apologies for absence were received from Crs Baker and C. Austin.. Correspondence inward and outward was read. The poundkeeper reported that 31 head of cattle and 1 horse were impounded for the month of April. The Inspector of Nuisances reported the Borough to be in a sanitary state. The overseer’s and treasurer’s reports were read and adopted. The accounts £92 13s gd were read and passed for payment. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That this Council by the virtue of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” “The Rating Act, 1894, and amendments, and “ The Public Libraries Act,” do hereby notify its intention to strike a general rate of is 3d in the £, and a library rate of id in the £ on the rateable value ot the whole of the rateable properties within the Borough on Monday, 9th June, 1902, for the period commencing Ist April, 1902, and ending on 31st March, 1903, to be due and payable in one sum at the Council office on the 14th day of July, 1902. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Gower, That the Town Clerk be instructed to take pioceedings against any person whose cattle, horses, etc., are allowed to wander on the roads. Carried. The estimated receipts and expenditure for the year were considered by the Council, and were adopted on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Of Speira.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the clerk take proceedings against the personalia have not complied with the ot the Council to cut and trim trees oyerhanging the streets and footpaths. Ca prop d osed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Robinson, That a inangle be fenced oft at the bottom of Mam-street similar to the one at the North ead of the town to commemorate the coronation of His Royal Highness Kmg Edward VII. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Svmons, That the Library Committee be instructed to expend the sum of fifteen pounds in the purchase of new books ■ for use of the library. Carded. -
