Volcanic Eruption.

From advices from New York we learn that the island of Martinique, one of the lesser Antilles In the West India Islands, has been visited with an eruption. The mountain knot in the north and another in the south are connected by a low ridge, all covered , with trees. Mount Pslee, a volcano in this chain has broken out belching forth smoke and flames, and the streets of St Pierre, the largest town in the island, having a good harbour, cathedral and college, are covered with ashed. Business has been suspended. This island is a French possession and has a population of 175,863, of which 10,000 are whites. The climate is moist and hot, but the soil is very productive. About one half the island is cultivated for sugar cane.
