Manawatu County Council.

The following is the balance of the business transacted at Wednesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council. In reference to a complaint from M Boyle, re cattle damaging the roads and tram line, the Clerk was notified to instruct the roadmen to at once report to the office when bulls and other cattle were allowed to be at large, so that proceeding may be taken against the offenders. Consideration of the proposal to erect a bridge near Shannon was deferred until next meeting. Permission was granted the Foxton Borough Council to impound stray cattle off the roads in the County adjoining the Borough. Messrs Carl Anderson and Hickford waited on the Council on behalf of the business people of Rongotea, and requested the Council to contribute half of a sum required to tar and sand and generally improve the paths round’the Rong tea Square. The Counoil decided to contribute £l9 towards the work, provided the residents did the work to* the satisfaction of the Council’s engineer. Mr Anderson estimated the cost of the work at about £B7. It was resolved that the Riding now known as the Campbell Riding be called the Rongotea Riding as from the Ist iost. TENDERS. - The following tenders were accepted A. Wisohnowski, £1 16s per chain for lowering cuttings on Kellow’s Line ; F. L. Behrent, £1 8s per chain for lowering cuttings on Taikorea Line; M. Boyle, £2 4s 6d per chain for lowering cuttings on Pyke’s road. Some necessary alterations at the tram shed were left in the hands of the Chairman, Cr Wilson. Instructions were given the overseer to have some sweetbriar growing on Mount Stewart grubbed up. A lengthy discussion ensued on the report submitted by the Overseer in regard to gorse spreading on the roads. Ors eventually decided to ask the Stock Inspector to take action against the offenders. The usual monthly accounts were passed and the meeting adjourned.
