MOURNING IN GAPE COLONY.
The funeral of the Ikte Mr Rhodes evoked unparalleled manifestations of grief in Capetown. Troops lined the route to the Cathedral, and dense crowds gathered in the streets. Sir Gordon Sprigg, the Premier, and Dr Jameson were among the pall-bear-ers. Mr Rhodes 1 brothers and representatives of Lord Milaor and Sir W,
F. Ilely-Hutchmson were amongst mournars. f Included in the precession were all the leading public men in South Africa, many members of the Afrikander Bond and representatives of New Zealand and Tasmania. The Bishop of Capetown, in his address at the Cathedral, said he recognised the deceased’s greatness. The route to the grave in the Matoppo Hills, in Matabeleland, will be lined by three thousand natives. The indunas lament the loss of a “ great father.”
