Good Friday and Easter Services.
Considerable congregations assembled at All Saints’ Church on Good Friday for Matins at n a.m. and evensong at 7 p.vn. The services were of the quiet, subdued tone befitting the day. The only music used was that for the hymns sung. Ihe worshipped were able to feel that their worship was quite in keeping with the solemn occasion, and that the endeavour to mark the day as something more than a commoh holiday had not altogether failed. In the afternoon (at 2.30), a special service for children was held. The alms at all services were devoted to the Bishop’s fund for the assistance of the poor districts of the diocese, and helped materially to swell Foxton’s Lenten contribution to this object. On Easter Day the Church looked very pretty indeed in its festal garb. Willing and able, hands had, on Easter even, twined evergreens and flowers in the beams and furnishings of the Church, and the reputation for beauty that the interior of Foxton Church has gained on this coast was felt to be justified. The congregations at all services were encouraging. The day began with a choral celebration ot the Holy Communion at 7.30 a.m., Matins was at 11. and evensong at 7 p.m. At the last service the church was fall. On Wednesday night the annual service of thanksgiving to Almighty God for the blessings of the harvest took place. The preacher was the Reverend Hugh S. Leach, lately vicar ot this parish, and now of Pahiatua. Mr Leach took his text from the opening words of the 15th chapter of St. John, and drew forth the lessons of the bruised vine and its branches in a very forcible and helpful way. The Church looks very pretty in its dressing of Easter and harvest decoration. The festival will continue over next Sunday. The fruit and vegetables given so freely by many people will be sent eventually to St. Mary’s Rescue Home, Karori, Wellington.
