A Confidence Trick.
Some little time ago a stranger came to Christchurch, and embarked in a business which required a number of skilled tradesmen to carry it on. Ho advertised the business freely, and also advertised for men. To those who answered his advertisement he represented that the business was going to be a leading one in its lino, in the city, and as there were certain secrets in the trade he would only engage men who were prepared to deposit £25, ns a guarantee of good faith. , Several persona complied with the conditions, and all wont well for a few weeks,'but now the enterprising business man is missing, and those who were misguided enough to let him handle their money have been left lamenting.
