Railway Rates.

FURTHER REDUCTIONS TO BE MADE. More than once during last session th* Minister for Railways (Sir Joseph Ward) stated that if the railway revenue showed the increase that had characterised it in previous years further reductions in freights would be made. It appears to have been the intention of the Minister to withhold those reductions until the purchase of the Manawatu Railway, which appeared imminent, had been carried into effect, but as the negotiations to that end have now been broken off, the matter will not be much longer delayed. The reduction in freights will be on sheep and wool, and there will also be considerable reductions in passenger fares. The exact details are not yet available, but they will be announced shortly.— Post.
