RACING CLUB. The ‘annual meeting of the Horowhenua Hack Racing Club was held at Levin yesterday. Rain was falling heavily at n o’clock and it looked as though it had set in properly, but after the first race it cleared up and was fine for the remainder of the day. Two Foxton horses were successful in their engagements—Mr A. Wright’s Waitohi in the Hurdle Race and Mr S. sena's Gold Dredge in the Electric, both paying good dividends. The sum of £3539 passed through the totalisators. Mr Wilson, the popular Secretary, was as usual courteous and obliging. After the Cup was run Mr John Stevens, M.H.R., in a few well chosen words, handed the Cup presented by the president of the Club (Mr John McDonald; to F. Higgott, the trainer of Shrapnel Shell, on behalf of the owner, who was -unable to be present. Cheers were given for the horse and rider. Following are the results: — Trial Handicap, of 35 sovs; six furfongs.—Frontier, yst ylb, 1; Aristocrat, yst ylb, 2. Also started—Red Ribbou, Silver Chain, Wainawa, Bushranger, Gold Spec and Gold Dredge. Out of a field of eight starters the two placed horses .were the only ones to finish, the rest falling at different stages of the race. Time, 1 min 35 35 th secs. Dividends, £1 its and £l3 9*fid.

Handicap Hurdles, of 50 sovs;. one and a half miles.—Waitohi, qst, if Pukana, nst 61b, 2; Aitua, gst, 3. Also started—Van Tramp, Pedlar, Old Gun and Forget-me-not. From the fall of the flag Pedlar took the lead and raced along the back lengths ahead of his field, but turning into the straight for the first time the field closed up when Waitohi and Aitua took the lead, and Waitohi galloping strongly was never again headed winning fairly easily by three lengths, a grand finish for second place. Time, 3mm. Dividends, £5 is and 14s. St, Patrick’s Handicap, of sosovs; seven furlongs.—Midia, Bst, 1 1; Baccarat, yst, 2; Cave, 3st 2lb f 3. Also started—Flanagan, Pretoria and Tureen, From the word go Pretoria jumped off with the lead and was allowed to lead on sufferance for about two furlongs when Cave took the lead and led along the back till the turn into the straight was reached when Midia who was lying bandy headed him and won fairly easily by a length, Baccarat who was coming gamely under the whip beat Cave for second place.. Time, train 32 i-Jth sec. Dividends, £2 15s and £1 ss. Horowhenua Cup, of 70 sovs: one and a quarter miles.—Shrapnell Shell, Bst 6lb, 1; Laureate, qst, Elusion, Bst 5113, (dead heat) 2. Platypus and Gold Cord were the only other starters. From a good start Platypus was the first to move and led till the turn, when the field closed up except Gold Cord who was toiling hopelessly in the rear, going along the back Shrapnell Shell took command and kept it till the finish, Laureate and Elusion fighting out a great finish for second place. Time, 2inin issec. Dividend, £3 6s. Flying Handicap, of 50 sovs; six furlongs.—Kereru, yst izlb, 1; Coma, Bst 61b. 2; Red Ribbon, 6st i2lb, 3. Also started —Puritana and Flanagan. From a good start Coma took the lead and led the field till the bend into the straight was reached when Kereru, who was full of running passed him and won by a length. Time, imin 18 4.5 th sec. Dividend, £2 3s. Stewards’ Stakes’, 0f.,60 sovs; T mile and .£ chains.—Midia, Bst 31b, 1; Baccarat, 6st 131 b, a ; Old Gun, 6st gib, 3lb. Pretoria was the only other starter. Won easily by three lengths. Time, imin 46 i-sth sec. Dividend, £1 *3?. Electric Handicap, of 40 sovs; five furlongs.—Gold Dredge, yst, 1; Wild Daisy, Bst 61b, 2; Goldwai, yst, 3. Also started—Kcreru, Puritana, Whenga, Tureen, Pokanoa, _ Puaha, Silver Chain, Aitua and Aristocrat. From an indifferent start Goldwai and Wild Daisy got well away, the favourite, Kereru, being slow to move. There was not much difference between the two first named as they raced along the back but entering the straight Gold Dredge, who 1 was lying third, cut down the two leaders and won by two lengths, Wild Daisy three lengths ahead of Goldwai.
