Manawatu County Council.

The monthly meeting of the above Council took place at Sanson yesterday* Present—-Messrs Wilson (chairman), McLennan, Robinson and Hammond. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : From J. R. McLennan, stating -that one plan of the proposed exchange of roads through the Orona Downs was in the hands of the lithographers; also pointing out that by the exchange the Council would have less road to maintain, and the new road would be of greater utility. From Robinson Bros., stating they had no objection to the proposed change of roads. Fron Treasury, stating that £6lB had been placed to credit of Council, being first advances of loans for' part cost of construction Bulls Bridge £325, first advance for providing half cost of construclion of-Milner’s Lina £l5O, also £143 being fourth advance, <m account of £7OOO loan for construction of tram extension. ’ ’ From S. H, Wrigley, Tram Manager asking for an increase of pay; FINANCE. The Clerk repoited the various accounts as under ;-rGeneral account credit, £398 103 56 ; loan account credit £lB3 is id; credit balance, £5Bl ns 6d. riding accounts.- .. . , Sandon riding, Dr, £8 145,116; Mt. Stewart riding Cr £BB 14s 1 nd; Waitohi riding Dr £6l - 5s sd; Campbell riding Cr £72B3yd; Carnarvon riding Dr £72 153 rod; Kawakawa riding Or £194 16s 46; Awahou Cr £l3B 6s yd. OUTSTANDING BATES. Mr Purnell stated the total of outstanding rates for the current year amounted to about £l7O, the amount collectable being £3530. ‘ TRAM REPORT. Mr Wrigley submitted the following, particulars regarding the tram;—Total receipts £9B 13s xoh; expenditure, £6635 76; credit on months’ working £32 10s 3d. Goods carried—Grain 68 tons, minerals 86, merchandise 88, manure 5, hemp 24, chaff 3 tracks, firewood 6 trucks, green flax 6 tracks. - r-i awahcri bridge. Mr J. G. Wilson stated the Awahcri bridge is in a dangerous state and should be attended to. Three acres have been secured by controlling body, which would enable the Council’s contractors to obtain metal from the river free of the royalty previously imposed by natives. • miscellaneous. The salary of Mr Wrigley, tram manager, was increased to 8s per day. Re request for cheap carriage of grass seed the Council was agreeable, if the Government provides trucks and sheets, failing which the owners to pay out-of-pocket expenses. Mr McLennan’s request, re exchange of roads, was agreed to. Tenders accepted—No. 127, F. Simjjson; 128, M. Boyle; 129, Wianowski. The meeting then adjourned.
