CIVILIANS v. VOLUNTEERS. As a fitting termination to the annual encampment a friendly game was played in the Victoria Park yesterday between the above teams and after a most enjoyable game, during which everything went as merry as a marriage bell, resulted in a win for the Civilians by seven wickets. It was a pleasing sight to see such a good attendance, and during the course of the match the ladies provided one and all present with afternoon tea and light refreshments, a kindness which was duly acknowledged at the termination of the game. The Volunteers went in first and put together the total of 36, of which Betty contributed 14. The Civilians replied with 52, Martin contributing 12, In' their second venture the Volunteers scored 40, W. Nye making 21 by some free hitting. Some phenomenal bowling was done by the veteran Eeade, who went on as a change and secured 5 wickets for 4 runs. This left the Civilians 27 to get to win, which was done with the loss of 8 wickets. Messrs Robinson and Spence discharged the duties of umpires, whilst that of secretary was taken by Mr R. Lightbourne. The usual courtesies were indulged in at the conclusion.
