Volunteer Notes.

The last two mornings being wet very little drill could be done, but last night the men were put through some useful movements by their officers. To-morrow morning a church parade will be held when the volunteers, headed by the Foxton band, will march to church. The officers have donated a prize of a box of cigars to the men which have the best dressed tent. No doubt there will be keen competition between the different tents to-morrow morning. Thirty members from the two Palmerston corps are expected to-night and will go into camp with the local men till Monday. A tug-of-war has been arranged to take place between teams representPalmerston and Foxton, and to the winning team a present will be made to each man from the officers. The camp will be open to the public to-morrow afternoon, when no doubt there will be a large crowd of sightseers. Each volunteer has the privilege of taking a friend to afternoon tea in the mess room. The general public may also obtain afternoon tea from the caterers, Messrs Langley Bros., for the small charge of 6d, To-morrow evening, if the weather is favourable, it is the intention of officers to have a large camp fire lit in an adjacent paddock and entertain their visiting friends at an openair concert.
