The Navy Estimates.

The Navy Estimates amount to £31,255,000. They permit arrears in construction to be overtaken.

The new construction now proposed absorbs £9,058,000, and consists of two battleships, two armoured cruisers, two third-class cruisers,

scouts (a new type of boat to act as naval “ gallopers ”), nine destroyers, four torpedo boats, and four submarine boats, with an increase in personnel of 3875 officers and men. Twenty-five of the present ships will be fitted with modern armaments. A committee has been appointed to consider moans of-strengthening torpedo boat destroyers. Another committee will consider the question of raising the strength of the Naval Reserve, which is now below that contemplated. Naval Volunteers will be re-estab-lished.

Sailing ship training will bo aban doned.

No manoeuvres will in future bo carried out in British waters, but combined movements will be undertaken by the Mediterranean Channel cruiser squadrons. The future composition of the Australasian Squadron will be discussed when the colonial delegates arrive in England for the coronation.
