—,—« During 1901, 202 persona were taken into custody at the local court, of whom 18 were discharged for want of evidence and 18 on their merits, 162 were summarily convicted, 109 being fined, 20 imprisoned, 41 convicted and discharged with ~a caution, and 9 had. orders made against them. The class of offences dealt with were—common assaults, assaults on police, theft, wilful damage, forgery, drunkenness, resisting police, prohibited persons, procuring liquor for prohibited persons, threatening behaviour, breach of the peace, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, idle and disorderly persons, application for maintenance, and disobeying orders of Gourt. In the Civil Division there were 181 plaints entered, and £849 11s XOd was the amount sued for and J 3882 was the sum recovered.
