CASUALTIES.
In addition to the casualties pre-, viously mentioned, Major-General Clements reports that upwards of fifty were wounded. Dfi WET'S MOVEMENTS. 1)3 Wet is moving northwards. Unofficial news states that MajorGeneral Knox routed the Boers who wore prevented from following De Wet Many prisoners were taken by the British. The newspapers strongly urge the continuous despatch of adequate relays of mounted infantry to quell the guerilla movements in South Africa. INVADING CAPE COLONY. The War Department at Capetown has been informed that a force of seven hundred Boers, which crossed the Orange River near Aliwal North, has arrived at Kuapaddar. SENTENCES FOR TREASON. At the trial at Colesberg of a number of Afrikanders charged with treason, sentences of from six months to 2-|- years' imprisonment, with fines varying up to £500, were passed. SURRENDER OF 2,000 BOERS. There has also been a persistent report in London that after the light which started on Monday at daybreak and lasted s veral hours, two thousand Boers surrendered at Orange River. A large number were captured and many killed and wounded. THE SURRENDER OF BRABANT'S HORSE. Only forty-eight of the Second Brabant' 3 Horse surrendered on Friday. THE NOOITGEDACHT BATTLE. Khaki clad Boers at 'Nooitgedacht crept to within forty yards of MajorGeneral Clements' position before they were recognised, a y desperate almost hand to hand conflict resulting in the Boers' repulse an hour later. The Northumberlands were assailed when they surrendered by Boers on the ridge, who directed three guns on the camp. The transport inspanned under heavy fire. Sixty men belonging to the Twelfth Brigade of Mounted Infantry splendidly kept the Boers back until a retreat was effected.
