Cr Purcell was voted to the chair in the absence of the Mayor. The minutes of the la9t meeting were read and confirmed. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That the School Committee be granted their request of loan of ferry bell for State School on condition that the bell is returned when required in sound order. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That the report as read be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Walsh, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Walsh, That the honorarium of the Mayor for the future be £io. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the Town Clerk be appointed Inspector of Buildings for the Borough ot Foxton in accordance with section No. 318 ot the Municipal Corporations Act at a salary of £10 per annum. Carried. Crs Hennessy and Austin voted against the motion. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That in the opinion of this Coencil it is advisable to take steps to adopt the Rating on the Municipal value of Land Act 1896, and that a committee of three councillors be set up for that purpose, such committee to consist of Crs Hennessy, Walsh and Baker. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Walsh, That a special meeting of this Council be held on Thursday, 20th December, at 12 noon, to receive j tenders for ranging, carting, lamplighting and dog registration for the year 1901. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Walsh, That Mr Whyte's request for repairs to road be attended to, and the overseer be instructed to see that it i 3 done. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Baker, That the attention of th ' Postmaster-General be called to the present delapidated appearance of the ?ost Office. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the PostmasterGeneral be written to in reference to the need of a letter carrier. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Austin, That the foreman be instructed to procure one barrel of tar and have it put on that part of the footpath which is in the best condition with a view to arrive at the probable cost of having the footpaths in the Main-street tarred. PrDposed by Cr Baker, seconded L_, Cr Austin, That the resignation of the Mayor be accepted with regret. Carried. The Council then adjourned.
