SEIZURE OF ASTRONOMICAL INSTRUMENTS. Li Hung Chang learns that the Imperial Court has agreed to execute Yuh-sien. The astronomical instruments erected by Jesuits on tho walls of Pekin have been removed. Half of them are destined for Paris and half for Berlin. This act of vandalism is excused on the ground that the Court is unlikely to return to Pekin, and the instruments were endangered by the populace. The Kalgan expedition has experienced a reverse.
