Friendly Societies' Picnic.
A meeting of the Friendly Societies Picnic Committee, was held last evening. A large amount of correspondence was received. It was resolved to ask each lodge to appoint four additional delegates to assist with the day's sports and amusements. It was decided to reduce the children's fares y^from Ashhurct from is gd to is 6d. as a^extra inducement to the young folk '^nat district. It was announced that arrangements bad been made ior a number of steamers to convey excursionists to the Foxton Heads on New Year's Day at a nominal charge. Passengers will be landed at the beach by a proper landing stage (which has been a great drawback in years past), and they will be enabled to visit the pilot station, flagstaff, sanatorium, etc. was also stated that the owner ot one of the steamers had invited the Feilding Band, so that the day 's enjoyment will be greatly added to. Reports from the adjoining towns point to a record gathering for New Year's Day. The Chairman and Secretary were appointed to purohase the presents, toys, etc., for distribution to the young people attending the picnic. —Standard.
