♦ The circumstantial statement recently made that Mr Horace Porter, the American Minister at Paris, had been recalled is officially contradicted ; a 1 so that the former r naval attache to the Embassy, Lieu- ' tenant W. S. Sims, had been sent to Gibraltar. The latter has mere'y rejoined his ship. Colonel John Hay, American Secretary of State, is endeavouring to allay the excitement caused in Paris regarding the reported theft of plans of the new French field gun.
