The Transvaal.
MR KRUGER. Ex-President Kruger has arrived at Port Said. He declined to be interviewed. BOTHA COMING TO TERMS. The " Daily Mail" states that General Botha has forwarded to Lord Roberts the terms upon which he is willing to surrender. MISCELLANEOUS. Lord Methuen's force has captured a pompom gun near Lichtenburg, forty miles south-east of Mafeking. Last week sixteen Boers were captured in endeavouring to re-enter the Transvaal from Delagoa Bay. Troopers Richards, of Victoria, and Johnson, of the South Australian Bushmen, were severely wounded at Wonderfontein. ACTIVITY OF THE ENEMY. News has been received that the Boers have broken the railway running from the Orange river to Bloemfoute n in twenty places. The line running along the western frontier has been damaged., by the Boers between Belmont and'Kitnberley. The British troops have evacuated Vryheid, a town in the southeast <>1" the Transvaal near the Buffalo river, fifty miles north-east of Glencoe. The garrison, which was provisioned for half a year, now occupies the hills overlooking Vryheid and threaten the besiegers that if they attempt to enter, the town will be blown to pieces. Commandant De Beer, with 800 burghers, is still investing Schweizer Renneke, in the Western Transvaal, forty miles south east of Vryburg, although Major-General Settle twice temporarily relieved.the position. The British garrison, consisting of 250 men under the command of Colonel B. Channer, is gallantly resisting the Boer attacks. Severe fighting is reported from Edenburgh. It is stated that the Boers' casualties were seventy-five. LORD KITCHENER. Lord Kitchener has gone to Natal. MISS ROBERTS RECOVERING. Lord Roberts's daughter, who is suffering from enteric fever, is still progressing favourably towards recovery. THE VISIT OF COLONIALS TO ENGLAND. Five thousand colonial troops from South Atrica are expected to arrive in England by the end of January. A committee, of which the Duke of Abercorn is president and Earl Grey vice-president, is arranging, with the approval of Lord Salisbury, the Right Hon. J. Chamberlain, and Viscount Wolseley, a programme for their reception. The colonials will also visit places of historic interest. MR KRUGER'S TOUR. The Governments of France and the Netherlands forwarded to Mr Kruger particulars of the stringent measures they are taking to prevent anti-British demonstrations being made on the occasion of bis visit* *
CONFISCATED TREASURE. The Hanseatic Court has ordered the Transvaal gold recently seized on board the steamer Bundesrath, and confiscated b,y order of a Hamburg Court, to be returned to the consignees.
