No better day than yesterday, in the matter of weather could have been wished for, as the day was bright and warm, with a slight breeze. The sports were well patronized and the events were well contested, notably the various tugi-of-war. The officials all worked bard, but there was an attempt to supersede them by one man who very volubly and loudly criticised certain of the proceedings. His ire was justly roused by the peculiar running of Furrie in the 440 yards, who when almost at the winning post, stopped, and let the second man pass in first and then ran in second. The public believed this was an intentional act, and the man who mouthed the critics said so, but the Committee having heard both sides, accepted Furrie's explanation, but warned him to be , careful for the future. This, however, did not appear to be satisfactory to the one of the public previously mentioned, and it was the theme of his discourse the whole day long. In the last race there was a deliberate run off of one of the runners by another competitor, and it was alleged it was arranged to try and run off another, but he got through the unsportsmanlike men and being too fleet of foot, won. The Sandon Band of twelve performers gave some good music during the day, and compared very favourably with our own band. The refreshment booth, conducted by Mr Traill, provided a good lunch, and appeared to be doing a capital business. The takings at the gates were £15. and the committee should have a good surplus in hand. Following are the results of the racing : — 1.
